“I am NOT driving a Truck with a V6”

“I am NOT driving a Truck with a V6”

If, I had a nickel for every time we have heard the phrase, “I am NOT driving a truck with a V6”, I would be a little richer.  But, we all knew this was going to happen.  When Ford announced they were putting a 3.5L V6 in the 2011 F-150’s, we all had to take a step back and put our heads around the idea.  We knew it was going to be a challenge to convert our V8 customers to the V6.  Claiming the engine would have better fuel economy and more towing power than the 5.0L V8, Ford had us all intrigued.

When our first F-150 with the Twin Turbo 3.5L EcoBoost V6 arrived we were excited and ready to see if this was the real deal.  I put the key in the ignition and fired up the engine and the first word that popped in my head was “Quiet”.  Honestly, when I think of a powerful engine, I want to hear a little rumble from the motor.  I know the sound means nothing but I am a guy and I like the thunder after the lightning.  On the road this truck really came to life!  Effortless acceleration that will have you at 65 mph before you can check to see if any cops are around.  The twin turbo gives you power off the gate and the extra horsepower at highway speeds.  The truck feels really light on its feet.

The EcoBoost made me say, “Wow!” It is funny how many guys go from, “I am not driving that” to “Get me one today.”  Tow up to 11,300 lbs and get 21 mpg on a full size 4x4 and 23 mpg on the 4x2.  What is not to like?  Now, when they tell me “No way!” a simple test drive has turned customers from certified skeptics to believers.
